A vent should not just be arbitrarily derived. In much the same way a sealed box of XX size has an alignment with a certain woofer, a vented box of XX size will have a certain alignment with the vent AND the woofer. Having 3 things to juggle makes vented boxes more fun.
Unfortunately, one cannot always get the desired venting alignment for their volume. In this case, a compromise has to be reached. Try to tune a tiny box really low and you get some funky stuff happening.
What is the volume of your new enclosure?

Do that first dumbest, then ask your questions.
If the box is free of jagged stuff inside, then several garbage bags can be tied off, and stuffed into your box. Leave lots of slack in the bags, and pack em in, then just pack em in a cardboard box, and measure away.
Styrofoam "peanuts", or water may also be used. Water has the benefit of detecting any pinholes you may have in your glass work.
