With 48" sono you could do 8 12's in 2.5-3 NET each or 6 15's in 3-3.5 NET each, anymore and it'd probably be over a musical tune.
Why would it be a waste of money? Two 4x8 sheets would cover the front and the back 1.5" ($120), and you'd have some left over from the port being cut out. |

I googled "sonotube sizes" and that's what came up. So if I don't say that I don't work for sonotube it means that I work for sonotube? How does that make sense? That website is for a construction company in Missouri, I'm in Ontario. Posts of this & that... so? I like discussing what I can do with my car. Look at the pics in my profile - 05 RE XXX 12 with a fried tinsel, Visonik V900XD/blown up, Eclipse SW8200. What I have now is nothing to brag about, I'm using the Eclipse in 1 cube sealed powered by a Kenwood 550W amp, cheapo dual deck, and stock speakers. I want to upgrade but every time I get a couple hundred saved I have more bills to pay. I want to skip upgrading for a long time, I want big power but that'll cost a lot, and I'll probably sell my drums to pay for some of it. The plan is a foreward firing and sealed off from the trunk ported box, 2 15's in 8.75 NET @ 35 Hz and as big an amp that'll stay alive with the biggest alt I can find. I can only fit 2 batteries in the trunk +1 under the hood, maybe I could fit more, but I'm not a mechanical maguyver. I'd feel a lot safer with a high-tech alarm cuz my neighbours stereo was stolen last week, it's like you can't drive through a small town bumping without some POS thief following you home. The XXX, it was nearly stolen, but I switched it out for an APX the week before. Then my amp fried a couple days later, so I still have that too. A horrible vid of the Eclipse. |
how much for the blown v900xd.....betcha i could make it do a 145-146......i did a 145 with the vxd609.....
not sayin it aint a cool box design, but for real, how much to fix it, maybe 75 bux? than u could rip on that eclipse big time in a proper box.... dont wast ur time design stuff for equipment u dont have..... instead......take what u got and make it as loud as u can!!!! |
I did try the Eclipse in the XXX box (2.2 NET @ 36 Hz) with the Visonik @ 2 ohm/750W, and it wasn't even that much of a difference between the XXX on 1500W, it was barely noticeable, the XXX sounding more neutral was the only difference. Eclipse doesn't recommend ported boxes for the SW8200 but I didn't see a problem with over-excursion. The amp went into protect twice while driving, each time listening to Kanye - can't tell me nothing. Stock battery & 90A alt, 1/0 wiring, big 3. The deck was $1000 Pioneer, man I miss that thing, it was a flip-out 7" touch-screen, so easy to use.
I bought the amp used for $250 from Rob-someone from Toronto from this forum awhile back, and I don't even think it could be fixed - it's jet black in one corner, it smoked bad in my car, it was like a scene from cheech & chong. If I can't fix it than I'll sell it for cheap. Fixmyspeaker.com quoted me $165 to recone from a 12" to an 18". The 18" box I drew up is about 9 NET @ 32.8 Hz, which is the entire trunks W & H & L, and uses a 1:3 port. I found that the XXX 12" fell off hard after tune and it had no serious low end, maybe the box was just garbage (that was $300/1" MDF/port to the side). I tried 2 Eclipse SW8200's sealed in 2.5 NET and they did a much better job below 35 Hz, even when on 750W total. Rediculous 20-25 Hz = LMS motor + sealed box. I want better lows next time, that's for sure, I expected more from an XXX V3. It's been hard to even want to sell it because everytime I google it I find another person on a forum saying it's one of their favourite subs ever. If I could find a person to recone the XXX and fix the Visonik than I'd use those. Who can fix a really messed up amp? |
