Haz,

The RMS rating for any speaker is far more important than the MAX.

For example, here's JL Audio's information regarding optimum power:

Of course that'll differ for each brand. But supplying MAX rated power does not mean that your powering the subwoofer optimally.

I'm going to get a pair of 8W3v3's. Their MAX rating is 250W, but the Optimum (yellow area) is between 150-175Watts.

If I get a pair of 8 ohm subs (single voice coil) I can wire them in parallel to put a 4 ohm load on my amp. At 4 ohms my amp will provide 420 Watts. Split that between the two subs, and they each get 210 Watts.

Supplying two 10" L7's with 750, is 150Watts over this particular speakers RMS.

Definitely find a place that's willing to let you listen to each configuration. 8" subs will generally sound tighter. But cannot produce as a low a frequency. At least listen to a pair. Maybe they would work for you.

ok ok... i git it now... the RMS is more for what ur aiming for... i see... so u really think i should git the zx1000.1 with 8's... i wouldn't mind going for 10's. Would then the zx1500.1 amp work... then it's only 150 over the RMS... or then would that be too much. and like i said money won't be an option come time to buy them

Nope, I'm not suggesting you get 8's. I'm merely suggesting that you listen to them first, before buying 10's or 12's. As for the 150 over RMS, I don't imagine it'd be that big a deal. Especially because of the fact that its the L7's, and because you'd still be well under the MAX. So the 1500.1 would work, with a pair of 10's. Probably wouldn't suggest that amp for a pair of 8's though. The 1000 would be best for them...

If you couldn't tell much of a difference between the two 10's on the 1500, and two 8's on the 1000. I'd suggest you get the 8's. Simply because you wouldn't have to spend as much money. If the 10's with the 1500 are more pleasing to your ear, then that would be the way to go. I think most of us newbies are a little apprehensive when it comes to the 8" subwoofers. But they make them for a reason. And Kicker even makes it for their top-tier woofer...

This is like the blind leading the blind. LOL

Haz, please do yourself a favor, and wait for more people to have more input. Like I said, I'm just starting to figure this stuff out myself. I'm hoping that if people know that what I'm suggesting is incorrect, they'll have the decency to correct me, on your behalf.

For starters, find a shop that'll let you listen to each setup.

Also, a quote from the KICKER users manuals for the 1000,1500, and 2500 amps...
"We recommend an alternator with a minimum 140 ampere output capacity, at least one extra battery with 50" of the amplifier, an extra fuse located within 18" of the extra battery, all power and ground feeds to be as short as possible, and use 12, 10 or 8 gauge speaker wire."

... I'm not getting anything till after next year... like i said i'm in school now so all my money has gone into it. After next year I'll be looking into upgrading... and my car is good... 2002 hyundai accent... has done me good so far.
One question... what kind of kicker 5 1/4's would you put in the front door's... and i would prolly get a small amp to run those.

If you aren't going to install a system until next year, shop around a bit and listen to other brands. Audition various sizes as well because you might find that one 12" is more appealing than two 8". This will allow you to optimize your space constraints. Take your time and prepare a budget so you know what you're spending.

I didn't realize this was something you planned on doing in over a years time. By the time your ready to buy, there'll probably be other products (upgrades) in the Kicker line-up. As well, as most other manufacturers. At that time, you might find something else that works for you. Or, you could get the products your looking at now, for less, since stores will want to move the old stock to bring in the new...
