Question >12V Regulated Cold Cathodes

OK, it's audio related, it's to finish off my trunk install :P

I had a set of 12" cold cathodes installed, but clearly they could not handle over 12V (hooked up to the cars power, making 13.8V at idle) causing one of the capacitors to explode and make some terribly unpleasant smells...

So, is there a dual 12" cold cathode system that is regulated and can handle 12-14.4V?

Thanks

Uh, if it was marked 12v it should have took it, unless you had a cold cold start up and then your alt usually puts out more, ( mine does like 15.8 or something first thing in the morning )

They'd been working in the car for probably 2 weeks, then one day driving home from work, probably 45 mins into the drive the cap just exploded making a terrible smell...

Should check what the cap was rated to... If I didn't throw it out.

Lightbulb

^ A cold cathode tube is an alternative to neon. Popular in tricking out a home PC (which is just so superlame but people do it)
