I am gussing space is an issue if your significant other wants 10s under the seats (not sure that would work too well) or 8s in the back ???

I say get a pair of 12s or an 18 and mount it free air... its more work to install but might be worth it if you both get what you want....

Its going into an FJ cruiser, there is a lot of space for creative installs. But since it is a SUV, there is no real way to go free air with the 18inch sub. If I were to go the 18inch route, I am pretty sure I could mount it to the side in the back of the truck similar to how a full size spare tire would look like only I beleive it would take up a lot less room and leave all of my cargo space available. The spouse doesnt beleive me though.

I am leaning towards the rli8's since I dont think I trust any of those shallow mount subs.

^Ahh I see...... yea those 8s do look pretty impressive.....

but don't rule out a single 12 or 15 over 2 8s either...

looks like that the ed 18 would have the advantage of 3x the cone area over a pair of 8s for example.... but you have to consider response curves and whatnot... along with your tastes....

The 8s should definatly be ported IMO, and I would normally recommend going for maximally flat response for the best phase and smooth freq response curve (easier EQing)..... but the 8s look like they may roll off a little early for my tastes...

that is just me tho

At anyrate at the end of the day I say get what you want and forget what the wife says....

lol

I have owned an 8" Soundsplinter RL-i before (the one you posted) and it is the best 8" driver I have ever heard (having heard a number of them, including an 8W7). Their output is extremely impressive and sonically, they are accurate and pleasing to the ear. I would highly recommend getting a couple.

Im thinking of building a hometheater setup with this. Could work in a car, but it's only available in 4 or 8 ohm.

I did see the mach5 audio one. It is peaking my interest because it is so cheep.

Maaaaaaybe.

The 8inch of mounting depth doesn't seem right to me though, I would think it would be much more.
