2 12" Subs Down to Single 12 Sub
#1
O.K. I am thinking about putting a single JL 12w6 and removing my current set up of 2 ImageDynamics IDQ12"v2. The 12w6 has more excursion than the IDQ12. I plan on keeping the power amp set up running the subs which is a 500/1. Will I lose SPL or low base going to the single 12w6 or will I not notice it since I have double the excursion with the 12w6 and the same amount of power if I were to run 2 IDQ12's.
Would a sub with more excursion and 12 cone area sound equal to 2 subs with half the excursion and 12 cone area x 2?
Thanks

Thanks Nissan, that's what I assumed. If I have 250w going into each 12" for a total of 500w I would have to double excursion and power into the single 12". Isn't that what I would be doing, Putting a total of 500w into the single sub so it comes down to if the 12w6 has double excursion capabilities than the IDQ12's which I would assume it to be. Any other input would be appreciated. Thanks

2 cones 500wrms, 1 cone 500wrms, see what I mean. To pick up that missing 3db, in theory, you'd have to go to 1000wrms. 12w6 won't handle that power.
have you measured your spl with your current setup?
Are you after SPL? SQ?
Will your new box be ported or sealed, and is your current box ported or sealed.
Many questions!
Ps. great choice to go to a 12w6.
