Im looking for some speakers to replace the stock ones in my car. Im not looking to spend alot and dont need a top of the line system. But what are the advantages/disadvantages of going 3 way as opposed to 2 way? And which would you recommend? Thanks.

3 way's are harder to install, setup and tune.

I recomemend 2 way.

Well I bet that was not the answer that you were looking for. A two way component set consists of a midrange/midbass driver and a dedicated tweeter. Now a three way has a dedicated midbass either an 8 or a 6, a dedicated midrange which will be the starting point for vocals and what not, and is usually about a 4 inch and a dedicated tweeter for you high range. That is what each set consists of. the advantages of a three way comp set is that each speaker has a certain job that it is set to perform and does not try to share duties such as the midrange/midbass in the two piece set. if you are just looking to clean up the sound in your car and get some more volume out of it I recommend the two ways.

Somehow I think he's talk about coaxials. If that's the case, I'd go with a 2-way. I've never seen a 3-way coax that I've liked.

Despite all your guys' info I went for the 3-way, mainly because that is all the store had. I got them fron London Drugs (*prepares for flames*) They are 6"x4" 3way for $25 and seem decent enough. I dont want top of the line stuff and cant afford $100 bucks for a pair of speakers. So if these blow quickly I will learn my lesson and save up for better ones, but until then.

Everyone has either done this or knows someone who's done this. I can count 3 pals I remember in high school that fully outfitted thier cars with stuff from a flea market. Forget Pyramids or Sparkomatics; this stuff consisted of brands I still haven't heard of and with good reason.
