Hello all! my first post. I just bought a 2003 Civic SI and I'm going to do a little bit of work on the system. I already have an Alpine CDA-9831 (18 Watts RMS/channel) and intend on putting a set of 6X9 Alpine coaxel Type R's in the back (55watts RMS), and 6.5" Alpine component Type R's in the front (70 watts RMS). I'm not really intersted in getting a sub at this time ($$$$). First of all I just want to know if anyone has experience with the Type R's in the front of a 2001-2005 Civic coupe, and if they fit properly (depth). I'd also like to know if it would be a waste to use these without an amp (also any suggestions) or is it not worth it for me to get an amp to power em?

any input would be very helpful.

IMO you dont need the rear fill(the 6x9's). save your money and buy and amp to power your front stage components

 

Rear ain't just for fill. If you regularly have passengers that like music, you better put some speakers back there or they'll laugh and call you names, and tell people your system sucks. I personally love rear speakers, I hate the sound of systems without them. I've found that everyone of them I've heard, including my own when set up for front stage only, sounded contrained, squeezed, and lacking ambiance. Some include a few sound off competition cars by the way, which did fairly well. Now, there may be some really good systems that have just fronts, but you can believe that the amount of time and effort that went into setting it up must have been incredible. It sounds to me that you just want a good sounding everyday system, since you're still just thinking about an amp. My advice is to get a 50-75 watts x 4 amp and hook up your speaks and deck. It'll sound great, at least by normal people's standards, and you can then start to think about subs, and messing around with different set ups etc...

 

Since your into the Alpine gear. Look for a modestly powered Alpine 4 channel. They can be had for a good price. The sound difference between deck power and amp power is night and day.

 

Thanks for the input everyone! I already have the 6X9's for the rear, I got them for a price that I couldn't turn down, and that's what got all this rolling. I think i'm set on getting this amp http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=MRP-F250, and the front components, but I am still worried that they won't fit. If anyone has any knowledge of this PLEASE let me know.

 

You will have to do some trimming to get the Type R's into the front doors. I had to do some modest trimming to get my 6.5" Alpine Type S into the doors of my 2002 Civic Coupe. The Type R is deeper and the basket is larger and it will require spacing to get it to fit. It will be very tight but you can do it. A new set of Type R's even come with spacer bracketry that you can use.

Good luck .....and when you have the door panel off be sure and use some Dynamat Extreme or similar sound deadener.

 

Yup that will work just fine.

 

All you need to do to get your alpines in the front door is pick up a pair of 1 inch spacer rings this will eliminate any cutting of your doors, you can pick them up for about $25 a pair from any install shop. Good luck
