Hmmm... lots of LPSI.....
1) Still no built in Aux. input (not everyone has an iPod.....) Gotta buy a box. Ugh
2) How do they sound? They look good, but do they sound as good as say a Kenwood Excelon 789 or 889? Or even a Clarion ProAudio unit? The 8600MP did NOT impress me one bit as far as how it sounded (I did like how it set the left front channel at about 15 feet away, and then put the right front at about 7 feet away, and then proceded to produce a rather unlistenable EQ curve with the nifty little auto RTA function......)
The kids will snap this stuff up in a second.....

^^ I'll respond to these two concerns:
1) If you look into the attached link, it shows detail on each model. According to the .pdf file, both the DEH-P7800MP & DEH-P9800BT will have auxiliary input. Secondly, ANY Pioneer IP-Bus unit can have an auxiliary input with the use of one of the auxiliary input cable options.
2) From the sounds of your experience with the DEH-P8600MP, you didn't use the power of the EQ & time alignment options to their best use. If all you do is use the "auto" feature, the unit is going to set up the EQ & time alignment settings to create the most linear frequency response possible. This more than likely won't sound very good so it's up to the user to adjust the settings to their own personal tastes. With an increase to 16 bands of adjustment on the DEH-P7800MP & DEH-P9800BT, these units should have great processing power & should be able to make almost anybody's system sound great!
And to your last point... I SURE HOPE SO!

Lights Per Square Inch= LPSI
As far as the 2 upper end head units having built in Aux.... didn't make it that far into the .pdf (saved it for later perusing).
The time alignment part of the 8600 is what wierded me out. At the time, there were ID horns residing in that car, and were at the most, maybe 1ms out as far as physical and measured alignment. (Well, according to the impulse measurements I took using SMAART Live, more like 1.16ms, but anyways) 12 feet on one side is almost 12ms.... the 16 foot sub delay was cute too. Guess it was just trying to make my car sound bigger than it was
I bypassed the eq curve it came up with.... car is flat enough already with the 31 bands and the 5 band PEQ's that are already in my DBX Driverack 260 that acts as my system controller.
I am also assuming the menu structures are typical Pioneer as usual? (Kinda like Motorola vs. Nokia. you are either a Nokia person, or a Motorola person.... some people like the Nokia GUI, Motorola people hate the Nokia GUI. I am a Nokia person....)
Looks like a good lineup... hope it works for you folks this year.
Gus
PS: Do the displays still flip colors and act up every 30 sec or so? Even with the graphics turned off, I noticed they still change polarity on the display every once in a while..... distracting.
