3rd AMP?

3rd AMP?
Hello, I am thinking about adding another amp to my system for the subs..
Currently I have one installed to my speakers... an Alpine MRP-F550, then a MRP-M1000 hooked up to 2 12" Alpine type R's and I was just wondering how much more power hooking up a second one would give the subs? and would a standard car battery be able to power 3 amps.
Also does using distribution blocks work as good as if you were to wire direct from the battery or do you lose power due to the split? and do they make ones for 1 4ga to 3 4ga? or only 1 to 2.
thanks,

The proper way to do it is to simply get a larger amp to replace your MRP-M1000. which alpines do you have because I think there are dual 2's and dual 4's. The amp will make different amounts of power depending on which subs and on how those subs are hooked up. As for distrobution blocks you would not loose power unless there was a loose connection.(poor instillation, defective material).

I have 2 Alpine Type-R SWR-1222D 12" Dual 2-ohm Component Subwoofers.
I just bought the amp about a month ago... and since it was only a single channel I was thinking about buying a second one, but I didn't know how much a difference it would make and if it would kill my battery.

if it's a single channel it's really called a mono block amp. Since you have dual 2's, if you add a second amp and run one sub per amp your subs will see the same power that they do now.(There's some math involved to find out how the amps will make their power). In this case if you want more output adding a larger amp instead of a second one is still the best way to go, However you will be over powering those subs as they was 300 rms each. The cheapest way to get more output now is to change the box the subs are in. Is the box ported, and if it is how large?I recommed you get it made up by somebody with experience in that area. PM me and I can tell you where it can be done. We live in the same area

How do you figure same power? with 2 dual 2 subs on 1 amp he's most likely wired to 4 Ohm because that amp isn't gonna take .5 Ohm. if he add's another amp and wire's both to 1 Ohm he's going to get alot more power. but he will need more power wire

if the subs were hooked up properly(presenting a load the amp can handle) the voice coils of each sub should have been hooked up in series so each sub would be 4ohms then the 2 of them together would show 2ohm load at the amp. I hope they weren't in parallel cause something is probably already damaged. Either way he will need a much larger amp but you can get two dual 2's to show a 2 Ohm load.
