And here I thought you just used them to strip the insulation off your power wire......

I've used vise grips lots of times, squeeze 1 side enough to grip the wire and then do the other side.....haven't had one pull apart lately......

I was at AA Electronics at Matheson and Dixie the other day and they had some nice 4ga connector that you can screw on...24 kt gold plate

 

Wendel: ring connectors? That's what I'm looking for so I can do the big 3 upgrade. Hopefully they don't come off ?? I will be soldering as well for insurance.

Big: If I'm using ring connectors, and I don't have a vice grip, can I just squeeze at the middle point (where the metal sticks out) using a c clamp + a hammer?

 

Yes they are ring connectors with a nice thick collar with an allan screw. If you are doing big three why arent you using 0 guage? If you are going to go through the hassle you might as well

 

Cost and it's harder to manage thick wire, than thinner wire. Based on the power charts I've looked up, for our system 4 gauge will do the job.

No problem. I encountered the same problem before and when I priced the crimpers it was ridiculous. If you can't find enough I have 1 of these connectors that I didn't use and that you could have if you wanted to come get it.

I can't remember for sure. I actually bought mine a long time ago and I just can't remember what was on the package at the store the other day. Probably 5 or 7 bucks though. At that place anyways. There are two other stores in that strip plaza also where you may find them. Sayal and RTC Electronics. I got some nice Phoenix Gold Speaker wire at RTC the other day. AA has all sorts of differet connectors and cabling and automotive lighting if your lookin for any of that.

 

Nice, will check them out sat morning. I have speaker wire 14 gauge from monoprice, so I'm good with that.
