4 subs or 2 subs?

4 subs or 2 subs?
I am piecing together a system over the winter and cannot decide whether or not to do 4 10" subwoofers in the $200-$300 range each or go with 2 12" subwoofers and spend like $1000-$1500 on the pair... They will be going into a 2006 Impreza and probably a 1500 to 2000 watt rms amplifier as well (any thoughts on the amp). I have been out of the loop car stereo wise for a few years and now and just getting back into it. I have the head unit which is an Alpine CDA 7977 which took me 6 months to find. I plan on doing big 3 and maybe alternator upgrade?!? Will be using probably yellow top battery but no cap.

Trying to squeeze 4 x 10" vs 2 x 12" in that little vehicle.... I would go with a pair of the 12". By the looks of things you are after some serious output. The Digital Designs DD3512 would be a great sub If you can find the room for the box. (approx 5 cubic foot net).

5 cubic feet for 1 sub or for the pair of 12's? I want this car loud but also clean and I think I will take the back seat out if I can. I don't want to build a wall, but I want to use the entire trunk for the box. I have also never heard of DD. What are the price ranges?

Seriously, they are very highly regarded and of course expensive is relative.
Not counting any amp to run your components, 2k WRms will certainly tax your charging system on that car. Pretty good you mentioned big 3 and possible alt upgrade. Stock alt would be maybe 70 amp?
You could probably save some money by picking up and amp on here. NIB or something. Boatload of stuff for sale right now.
