hi..i'm new 11-02-2004 04:46 PM

Hey.. I'm lookin to replace all my factory poop in my 92 civic with some nice drop in coaxials and a good mp3 compatible head unit with an amp to power the 2 fronts.. I'm gonna have it installed professionally. I have shopped around a bit and have listened to some speakers and gotten some quotes and what not.. I would like to keep the price at no more around 800$ Canadian. Here is a few quotes I have gotten:

1 – KD-AR300 $189 JVC CD/MP3 Player
1 – SPS-170A $99 Alpine 6.5” Coaxial Speakers
OR
1 - RF-4306 $85 Rockford Fosgate 6.5'' Coaxial Speaker
1 – MRP-T220 $190 Alpine 2 Channel Amplifier
1 – AKPA-8 $50 EFX Amplifier Wiring Kit
1 – HA02-BAG $20 Wiring Harness
1 – INSTALL $140
1 - TOTAL $784.32 including taxes
OR
1 - TOTAL $769.00 including taxes (With The Fosgates)

This seems to be in the ballpark of what I want to spend on my front stage.. I will have no rear fill and will add a 10/sub later on next year sometime. If anyone could offer any opinions on this install.. maybe anywhere where I could get this stuff or quiv quality installed for the same price? I'm in North Vancouver B.C Canada.

Cheers

Seems pretty decent for new equipment. Also the install seems reasonable.

slow/n\low 11-02-2004 05:04 PM

Seems good. The Fosgate speakers I find sound like pooh. Id prefer the Alpine.

North Shore Audio Video I have never heard anything poor.

Also the Guys down at Broadway Future Shop are good guys.

hi..i'm new 11-02-2004 07:46 PM

slow/n\low :

how much is an install at futureshop ? and how is their work ?

ZachCHartwell 11-02-2004 07:50 PM

I have a pair of RF 6.5 Speakers and they are ok sounding.

But anyways, good price on the afore mentioned stuff.

hi..i'm new 11-03-2004 12:26 AM

hey slow/n\low I just talked with the guys at north shore audio video and they say they can totally beat that quote. Cheers man

coulter 11-03-2004 12:29 AM

ya that is a good price for all that equipment, and install is a great price. you'd be much better off NOT getting it installed at futureshop though.

slow/n\low 11-03-2004 10:06 AM

^ Actually Nothing wrong with FS. I suggested the Broadway one specifically. But since you live in Owen sound how can you make a statement like that.

I have found just as many ****ty installers at independant as Future Shop. And just as many good ones. Just another case of being misunderstood and following other peoples opinions of FS.

Oh and The RF speaker are Horrible just listen to them, if you like them then let someone teach you decent sound

Paul Niwranski 11-03-2004 01:45 PM

Some of the best installers I know either have or currently do work at FS..

mik 11-03-2004 04:11 PM

We have 2 FS here, one is good and one is bad. The one in Halifax does excellent work, the one in Dartmouth seems to like to cut corners, they never have proper connectors or anything on the shelf or even in the install bay.... whereas the Halifax one always does.

hi..i'm new 11-03-2004 08:02 PM

well just got back from north shore audio and video.. listened to a pait of Dragster oc612 coaxial 6.5.. fed it with concept audio cc452 amp.. man those speakers screamed.. has anyone ever heard fo dragster? I believe its concept audio's higher end line

Dereck Waller 11-03-2004 08:58 PM

It has nothing to do with Concept. It's a European brand.

hi..i'm new 11-03-2004 08:59 PM

have you had any experience with them ? They are rated 250 peak 100 rms.. they sound great but i never heard of em before.. just wantin to see if anyone has had any horror stories (ie./ their construction.. longetivity..etc..)

Hardwrkr 11-03-2004 09:30 PM

Most of their stuff is mid-level and decent in its price point. Amplifiers are overpriced IMO.

Listen to as many different speakers as you can and go from there. If you find a set you like but they are a bit higher priced then you anticipated then consider going with a used amplifier to save some cost. Buy the best sounding speakers you can afford.

Lot's of good stuff on the For Sale section here if you're on a budget.

THere's nothing wrong with FS installers.... I've tryed to recruit a couple :D

but life outside FS is sweet.

It really bugs me when people start to slag other people that they do not know anything about what they can do and more importantly....what they done in this field. What are you trying to do???? Make your self look better????????

To "hi-i am new" the first thing you can do is go visit a few shops and talk to the Install Team. This will give you a little insight on what to expect from the Install and the Product.

The second thing you should do is RUN away from ANY shop slagging anyone else......The proof is in the work...NOT the mouth.

On a side note: look into getting some type of sound damping mat like Dynamat for your doors. This will make a great impact on the sound.

hi..i'm new 11-04-2004 12:52 AM

ok so far here is a few quotes on a few diff setups from a few diff stores....

Store A./
1 – KD-AR300 $189 JVC CD/MP3 Player
1 – SPS-170A $99 Alpine (Type-s Series)6.5” Coaxial Speakers
1 – MRP-T220 $190 Alpine 2 Channel Amplifier
1 – AKPA-8 $50 EFX Amplifier Wiring Kit
1 – HA02-BAG $20 Wiring Harness
1 – INSTALL $140
1 - TOTAL $784.32 including taxes

Store B./
Dragster OCE6.5" Coaxials 150$
Concept cc-452 Amp 150$
Jvc Kd-ar300 199$
Install 180$
Harness/Wiring/Amp Kit 50$
Total 831$

Store C./
Nakamichi spc-652 6.5" 150$
Amp (not sure which 1 Think it's concept) 225$

Install 192.50$
Total 825.50$

If you were given the choice of those 3 setup's which would you think is the best bang for buck sorta deal?

Merlin 11-04-2004 01:58 AM

well being an ex concept dealer and not being too too happy with the last bit of product i played with i'd say go for the alpine amp. for the money the type s speakers are a wicked speaker specially if they are down low cause they are kinda high on treble. i would see if you can get like a panasonic cqc1300 instead of the jvcar300, jvc can sometimes be a nightmare or really awesome, but i dont carry that anymore cause had to do too much warranty on it. i dunno about the clarion i tried playin with one a little while back and found thier new stuff pretty hard to use. but to each his own.

Paul Niwranski 11-04-2004 01:53 PM

Store B

deathtofs 11-04-2004 02:59 PM

HA HA HA HA HA THIS PLACE ALWAYS CRACKS ME UP!

hi..i'm new 11-05-2004 12:32 AM

well I think im goin with store A. very good install reputation as well.

http://www.vaderspeedandsound.com/

my only 2 reservations are:

1./ the head unit.. i have heard rumors that with the jvc kd-ar300 you cannot pause mp3 tracks.. can anyone shed some light on this?

2./ will the alpine type-s speakers handle the power from a solid 40x2 rms amp like the alpine one im gettin with it?

Paul Niwranski 11-05-2004 01:52 PM

^ interesting. my reservation on Store A was the amp

hi..i'm new 11-05-2004 04:55 PM

What is your reservation on the amp? not enuff power ?

hi..i'm new 11-05-2004 05:31 PM

well store b. just offered to match the install price of store a. and i loved the sound of those dragster speakers. Install on monday woot

hi..i'm new 11-10-2004 01:29 AM

woot got my dragster speakers and concept amp / jvc mp3 unit installed. Amazing sounding speakers.. check em out if you get a chance... unreal midbass from a 5.25. They claim 30 rms but my amp is easily feedin em 40 and they are lovin it.

Terry Alberts 11-10-2004 08:52 AM

Ahhh the loyalty of the wallet...

hi..i'm new 11-12-2004 01:16 AM

Another question...

My amp is rated 40x2 @4ohm and 56x2 @2ohm..
Right now it's running my speakers.. but If I decided to get a sub could I just use that amp bridged to power a decent 10 inch? Or would I need another amp?

coulter 11-12-2004 02:28 AM

wooo, first time reading this thread in a while. sorry to offend anyone with the FS statement, ive just heard a lot of bad things about installs there. but i guess theres maybe only like 1 bad one for every 50 good, but those are the ones people here about. ive never had anything installed by them, so i guess i shouldnt of said that...

slow/n\low 11-12-2004 10:47 AM

^ I would recommed that anyone who hasnt had first hand problems or positive things about any company not make comments.

if you never deal with a company what makes you an educated opinion?

coulter 11-12-2004 11:26 AM

i dont know, did you see what i just put in my post?
