Active VS Passive = Power
 

Hope I put this in the right catagory?
Right now running my passive xovers I am hitting my QSDs with a lot of power 200w rms per mid and 150w rms per tweet Bi wired thru the xovers but I am going to go to a active set-up and wonder if I should step down my power? For those actively skilled would you recommend me keeping it the same or using a couple of smaller amps? Is it a moot point or is there and differences I need to worry about? I just seems many active systems only use a 4x50w amp?

More power is rarely a bad thing. Go through a proper gain setup routine and take it easy, paying attention to how your speakers react to the power. Then adjust your gains again to suit.

Lots of power is good, just make sure you use the right frequencies for the speakers.
Mid-bass will need a HPF at about 80 hz, they'll die with sub freqs.

Thanks guys I was just looking at other peoples systems that were running without the passives and many seemed to be running only 50-100w per channel so..... I figured I was making a big mistake using my current power.

It only becomes a big mistake when your tweeter's VC's melt into little puddles of copper....:D

Like they said, just be very careful with your gains.....:thumbsup:

I run active in my truck using DLS Iridum 6.2 on a Db Drive 120.4 so 120rms per speaker


They seem to handle the power well, the tweeters require about half the power, sounds so much better then passive!!
