I already have a layer of CAE VB-1 and a layer of CAE VB-3 sound dampening on the floor of my car.
If I was to add a 2nd layer of CAE VB-3, would there be enough of an improvement in the quietness of the ride to justify its cost ???

It depends on what you are trying to get out of it. To get rid of road noise or stop rattles etc. I have 3 layers on my floor in my truck, but I have noisey exhaust. I would concentrate more on fire wall, floor, wheel wells, and roof. I'm assuming you already have the doors done.

Yes, more dampening on the floor, the firewall, in the wheel wells and on the roof.

For the firewall, is it okay to apply the mat stuff on the engine side? It's pretty hard to access the interior side. It might look really ugly on the engine side...

Hobbes26, I believe that you can get dampening material which is very tolerant to high heat and thus you can damp on the engine side.

White fish, dampening your car should not make it more prone to rusting.
