advice on high quality coaxial's?

hi everyone, i just got my 4 channel running straight thanks to some help from the forum members and would like to ask a few opinions from experienced listeners. i have jl tr570's in my front and rear of my 2008 f350 and find them quite inadequate. if i were to say i had a budget of around 800 bucks and i dont want to cut up my doors will a high end set of coaxials in front like 165 kr2 focals be pleasing even with the tweeter down by knee level and not up higher? my stock tweeter location is to far away imo to use components without modifying my door panel to acommodate a tweeter which i dont want to do. and finally can i get away with just running a high end set of fronts and no rears? i just choose focal because i have all jm lab in my house and really love them so i thought that would be a resonable starting point but im wide open to suggestions

if you're willing to spend that kind of cash...no reason you can't get good comps and custom mount the tweeters in a co-axial arrangment (or custom mount the tweeters close by). Many will advise you to forgo the rears and get the best front set you can anyway...so yes you certainly can do that (I like rear sound so I work it in), but since you have the jls, there's no reason you can't use the rear set for fill..if you want to. Focal makes excellent products and if you already like their brand...no reason not to at least audition them. Other brands/models to think about may include, Morel elate, Hertz mille, Jbl 660/560 gti, and Hybrid, Dynaudio, DLS, etc...

Image Dynamics XS has a convertible phase plug so you can mount the tweeter like a coaxial.

Really nice set

my biggest concern with using a coaxial is having a feeling of the highs positioned to low, the set i was looking at was the focal k2 coaxials which i think the tweeter is directional. i went and measured the tweeter location and its about 18" from the mid mount in the door panel so im thinking it might be worth trying to see if there is any phase parity. im curious about the image dynamics your talking about though.

They did not go belly up, and you should make sure you have things straight before you say them. Not trying to sound like a dick just trying to not blemish an outstanding company such as Image Dynamics with un founded information.

Eric Stevens the founder of Image Dynamics has left the company because of some irreconcilable differences with a partner. The Partner will be continuing on with the company( I just ordered IDMAX recones and know an R&D guy at ID, so I know they are still going) just a little hurdle in the road right now.

The XS Line of components are great and I think they still have stock at woofersetc.com The problem with going with a coaxial mounted tweeter is no matter what you do it will be low, even if you can swivel it up towards the occupant your source is low and hence so will be your staging. And in my opinion very few tweeters should be on axis to occupants anyways.

If your concerned about how far away your tweet is from your mid then running active and time correction will cure the distance issues. If you don't have those features in your H/U then maybe take a look at the Alpine Type X components, they have SOME passive time correction in the crossovers. Not to mention they sound great, the tweeter looks suspect(ring radiator style) but is smooth and crisp and the mid is great.

When trying to accomplish the best possible sound you need to either make sacrifices(cutting up your door, etc.) or make compromises on your sound.
Thats my $0.02

^^I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen it before, and keeping it straight as a consumer means that when i google their website and get the message I'm getting and have been getting for the last 3 weeks tells me that their company is no longer in business...if you have inside info that's great, but to me and most of the audio sites I've looked at, it appears that they are out of business...anyway if they're still around and making the same quality products, that's a good thing.
OP another brand to look at with removable tweeters is the boston acoustics components, great sounding speakers and versatile mounting options.

Personally I would never go coaxial again...

Maybe you can put a tweeter in the sail? And if you ever take your speakers you can just buy another one.

And you can use time alignment to correct the sound stage.
