Head-units sure have come a long way in terms of aesthetics. Was this a decent unit back when I was 4 years old?

Alpine CD players started way ahead of everyone else. IMO they were the ones to own.

wasent it apline what had the cages for the head units that you could just pull the head unit out and take it with you? like face plates today?

i rember the old school high end ones with out a build in amp. thoes were amazing

I remember selling that unit when it was new.

Kirk, Alpine was one of many companies that used the "pull out" chassis in their source units during these times.

brings back memories...my first ever car cd player was an Audiovox unit with the cd sleeves that you had to put your discs into before inserting it into the player...what a pain in the ***...but your discs did remain scratch free. I remember wishing i could afford the Alpine unit at the time...but they were mucho money back in the mid 80's.
