Both 7909's will play CDR's, mine did.

The only difference between the first one and the 10th anniversary one is that the newer one had better preout cables, had a copper chassis, and was a limited (1-400) series.............they even carried the original ungodly price tag from 1988.

They are great decks, my Denford 8250 sounds better then the 7909 did in my Accord.................

You can find them on ebay, beware...........they have two major issues..............the volume pot gets real noisey and the CD transport can slowly die to the point where CD's will just load and eject and that part is about $300 US plus labor, if you can even find them anymore.................

if you're after an oldschool deck, why not look for a Clarion DRX 9255?

And no, mine's not for sale anymore.

7909, along with it's lesser 7800 and 7801 brothers, is one of the most beautiful CD players ever made. Home or car. Beyond that, expect it to have said issues already noted above and for it to not read burnt CDs. My 1996-era Alpine 7930 won't play burnt CDs.

I got a DRX-9255 sitting in my closet

If you really want some old skool quality, I recommend getting a 7618 cassette deck to control a 5959 CD changer.
