As far as I know, you CAN plug in an external harddrive, but you have to power it externally.

if you get the 2.5 inch external hard drives, they do not require external power.

You can also use a large flash drive and that will work the same.

I have a 8gb usb drive I'm using now but I want to get an mp3 player just wondering if I have to get an ipod or can I get an mp3 player other then an ipod if it'll work with my deck in my truck? And if so how would I hook it up? Will it work through the usb input? Also my deck doesn't have an aux port

You can use an ipod through the usb port on the deck, and the aux port. I have the same deck as you and yes it does have a aux input, its just on the back of the deck. To hook up an ordinary MP3 player to your deck you can connect it with a standard 3.5mm to 3.5mm aux cable. You can buy these anywhere pretty much.

Yes I am 100 percent sure, I have the same deck. The aux port is on the REAR of the deck. Just run a aux cable from the deck into your glove compartment or a place similar to that.

Sound quality is just fine from aux imput. And no you dont need any fancy adapter from alpine. Like I have said for the third time now, the CDA-105 has a 3.5mm aux input on the back of the unit!

All you need is a 3 dollar 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable. You can find it at any store that sells electronics really.
