Alpine Extras
Purchased an Alpine CDA9887 head a year ago. I had to pay another $50 for the ipod cable. Then i find out all the costs & equip. involved in adding the "imprint" system, which i'm sure i'll only use once it's set up. Got a new ipod nano as a gift but I had to buy a Alpine adapter so it would charge. I need hands free phone by June of next year (legislation). Pay again for the setup. It's like cable TV just pay & pay for every "ready" feature. I'm tired of "ready" how about available when you first buy it!

Then people have to pay for something they may not want or need... Me for example, i don't want blue tooth in my car stereo, nor the imprint, and the ipod feature is nice, but not everyone has an ipod or wants one. I prefer a unit that has the ability to add these things,"ready", vs an all inclusive unit that has features i'll never use, but have to pay for.

I Agree
Thanks Denonite,
But, I informed the dealer of my requirements before purchase. Had he come clean & told me of the cost of "imprint" i'd have bought the CDA9886 & saved a bunch of money, the (9886 also inc. the ipod cable for free!). The same add on mods are available for the less costly model. Talk about a slap in the face!

Think about this as well, if a component in an all-in-one deck fails, the whole deck needs to be pulled and sent out. With an Alpine, if one component goes down, you only send that unit, and you don't loose your deck in the process

I made a mistake of buying an Alpine a few years ago, and realizing it had no EQ system at all. It was the 9885 I believe, it was a solid deck but it was my own fault not reading properly...
I believe the 9887 has a 5-band parametric EQ.

FYI, you don't have to buy an imprint module. Any reputable Alpine dealer will "imprint" it for you, for what should be a small fee, especially if you have been a good customer of the shop. That is a pretty damn good deck, especially when you have it imprinted. Oh, and you can thank Apple, not Alpine for needing the adapter to charge your nano, Apple is the one that went and changed things.
