I am going to buy this 16 gig HD unit to add to my CDA9835 HU.

Any comments or concerns before I do this?

Anyone have one or played with this unit?

I did a search and found nothing.

I am hoping Dave has some input because I value his opinion on Alpine gear . I will be picking it up on Wednesday. On a plus side my Toyota is double din so install will be a breeze.

Thanks in advance to any replies.

I know this is probably a stupid suggestion but why not look at getting the Eclipse 6.5" double DIN screen with 20gigHD?

Because I would end up paying retail for that piece and I already have and am very happy with the CDA9835.

BTW it wasn't a stupid suggestion. Is there such a thing?

Hmmm talked to a couple local dealers about them indash hard-drives. He never had much good to say about them. The main guy i asked carried eclipse, and i was always interested in hte alpine like yourself. I was more so checkin the price, only to find out holy moly. I went on to be told that well in his opinion they weren't as great as they sounded.

Rather sensitive to temperature and what not. And he mentioned some other stuff - possibly something to the effect of vibrations (although i might be making that up). All in all, he pretty well killed my ever wanting any indash harddrive player.

I'm not sure if i'd be any further ahead, but if i do go that route or similar, it'll be with a Neo Car Jukebox. Sets up just like a cd changer, and i dunno why, but just seems like a better idea. Not to mention probably half the price with double the amount of room. Or more if you feel you need it.

Having the double DIN opening is convenient for your idea but just curious, ever thought about installing an ipod in your car?

Lethal 09-14-2004 08:26 PM

The portability of i-Pod is it's biggest advantage. However I only listen to music in my vehicles. Not even at home.

i had heard that they where really slow when loaded with anything over 10gig. cool item though..Ipod interface makes a cool cheaper option
