Alpine HU doing strange things - or is it me?
#1
Hey folks
Working with a Alpine CDA-7894
Bout 2 months ago or so, i put a new sub and sub amp in my jeep. When working that in, my cd player did strange things. It began kinda skipping and sorta cutting out, then all sound cut out, eventhough it was still on. I shut it off for 10min, for fear something bad was happening, tried it after that and it was fine. I assumed something over heated as i was going pretty well full volume for a while, but...it didn't make sense for both amps to kinda cut out.
Anyways, day before yesterday, coming home at some broads house at 8am, i've got the music just cranked...me and tia carerra are having a ballroom blitz and so on...after like 15min of driving, the deck started cutting out again, kinda skipping, then almost playing in like fast forward at points (like doublespeed) which was really weird, cause these songs sounded fine earlier. I turned it off for a bit...and it was fine.
Next day, going to work, volume not even turned up, but shortly after i turned on the vehicle, maybe 20min, stereo only been on for like 3, it starts doing the fast forward chipmunk type playing stuff, i end up skipping to a different song, and that fixed it, went back to the first song that was problematic and it was fine.
In the end, i'm thinkin the culprit has to be the CD Player one way or another. To me, it almost seems like hte cdplayer is overheating, which doesn't make complete sense as the cd player isn't powering any speakers and it's internal amp is turned off, so how hot can it get? Is there a warranty on CD players. For whatever reason, when i bought it' it seemed like i paid for a warranty, although i guess that would mean it would be a shops warranty if you're paying for it? Or does alpine offer longer warranties on their decks if you pay for them? It's one of hte few items i purchased thru an actual shop instead of used.
Whats everyone elses opinions/advice? I'm just try'n ot get my bearings or prepare for whatever.

I've thought about that, that answer came up last time...and i tested the system at full volume and it was like 14.08 to 14.26 or somehting total range (can't remember exactly, but les than .2V either way while the vehicle is at idle.
The third time this happened the music wasn't even up loud - which baffles me and leads me toward the deck sorta.
