Alpine or Massive Audio amp for CDT components?

Hi Guys,

Have a question - I'm running a set of CDT components, ES-072i GOLD:

http://www.buycdt.com/ES-072i_2.htm

Currently, I'm running this set off a used Aline MRV-T757. Not quite sure how old, but as least 6-7 years.

The manual states power on this amp is 75W x 2 @ 4 ohms (12V), 100W x 2 @ 4 ohms (14.4V). The surprising thing is that the manual rates max power at 225W x 2 @ 4 ohms... Now, I know Alpine doesn't really make up numbers, but over twice as powerful? I can only assume it's under-rated.

Now... I have an opportunity to by a much newer Massive Audio RS-50, rated at 125W x 2 @ 4 ohms (14.4V). I don't have much experience with Massive Audio equipment, but it sure is a nice looking amp.

Does anyone have experience with the Massive amp? Would it be worth spending $200 to upgrade, or just hold onto the Alpine?

Thanks!

Dan

Both amps will be underpowering those components IMO, I'd stick with the amp you have and look for one to power them up properly rather than a lateral move to the massive.

Your set is pretty high end, and you would not be doing them justice with either amp - SQ and power.

I would suggest spending a bit more, and get a higher end amp with more power. Semendemon is selling a nice Audison 2 channel amp. I would highly recommend getting something like that. Look him up. Other brands to consider are: Arc Audio, DLS, JL Audio, PPI, TRU, US Amps, Zapco. You can get them used for a reasonable price.
