Alpine SPR-176A component set....
#1
Hey, I read a review on these in CA&E, anyone have some personal experience with them? Sounds like they are very strong in the bass/midbass/midrange department, not so strong in the highs, which is fine by me. Any thoughts, also what is the approximate price on these? Thanks!

One of my team members who competes in IASCA SQ runs them in his car and he loves them... he finished fourth in the world at the Finals last year and had the second highest sound quality score in his class.
I'd say they're worth it, I put a pair of SPR-136A's in my son's car and he loves them too. I don't know if the other components the other guys mentioned are more expensive or not, but I think the Alpines are a good value for the dollar.
Your best bet is to listen to all the products available in your budget range and decide for yourself which ones you like the best; after all, it's you that's going to be listening to them most of the time and you have to be happy with them. It doesn't really matter what brand you get as long as YOU are happy with them; that's all that really counts...

Thanks for all of the input, and thanks to Moe for the insightful post! Makes sense. I tried to listen to them today, but the sales guys were all too busy. I don't mind a laid back tweeter, but I don't like really harsh high end. They are listed as soft-dome tweets, I will have to take a listen tomorrow, if I have time. I looked at the JL TR's ($230), they also had the XR's ($585). I assume the VR's will fall somewehere in between, price and SQ wise. I had some TR coaxials a few years back, really like the sound of the textile dome tweeter. I will be running my old Rockford 400x4 4 channel, two channels to the comp set, and bridge the back to some subs, not sure which ones quite yet. Thanks for all of the help.
