Alpine: type R vs Type X
Been doing alot of research on these 2 Alpine 6.5" component sets and there doesn't seem to be alot of difference between the 2 when it comes to whats in them. The biggest difference seems to be the cosmetic things, like the X's have much nicer looking Xovers and whatnot. Anyone have an experience with these 2 sets of speakers? There is a huge price gap.
Any opinions here guys?

the type r components are a travesty of sound reproduction, i sell alpine and wouldnt sell those particular speakers to my worst enemy, the type x components are vastly superior and sound bloody amazing for the price, imo opinion they should be worth more. the flexibility of the x-overs is like nothing out there, the technology in the tweeter is directly born from the scanspeak revelator tweeter, with rear tuning chanmbers and phase plug, the speakers dont get the praise they deserve
OK thx for the info, I was trying to justify getting the type X's (I can get for dealer cost) and they are about 120$ more but the specs are almost exactly the same, I think the X's top end was like 20 watts more, but other than that they looked identical. I just didn't want to spend the extra money to buy the name and some fancy looking X-overs.

not the case with the type x crossovers. loudtdi, what better components do you use? solen etc, and do you use the same value of components as the manufacturers design, or do you design your own. i agree passive x-overs are the weak link in mist cases thats why i try to eliminate passives whenever possible, they provide very little flexibility, something that is critical in system tuning and setup
