Alpine Type X sub, and lots of questions...
#1
Alright, this can get real confusing so read carefully and think about what I typed, lol. Ok here we go.
I recently bought 1 12" Alpine Type X sub, and an air ride kit. Now the air ride kit must go in the trunk along with the tanks. So that leavs 1 spot to put the sub, the back seat area.
Now i'm going to take the back seat out, get some MDF fiberglassed and painted and put it where the back seat is on the sunfire (so where the part you lean your back on is) and right below that will be a small amp rack for my 2 amps.
Now here's another few questions. How will that sound? Which was should I have it turned? Cone towards the trunk? Or away from it? Could I possible put MDF if the trunk to somewhat turn the trunk into a box? Also should I "port" 1 side of this fibreglassed board where the sub will go?
I know this is a SQL sub, but i'm looking to get a little more SPL out of it.
I'm looking for real professional opinions on this. If there are any further questions please ask. Thank you.

my first question would be why not fiberglass the spare tire well, put the sub in there, and build a rack above it to hold the tanks, and mount the amps to the back of the seats inside the trunk...
or build the box to sit right up against the rear seats, and then have the tanks in front of it..
This all depends on how big the tanks are, and how much room you have left in the trunk with them in. I would also plan to give that sub at least 1k watts, if you haven't already planned as much..

some pictures would help... how tall, or high are the tanks??? I just don't understand why you can't fiberglass a spare tire well enclosure, and put in a false floor, with the tanks mounted on top of it...
But if there's not enough room, then there's not enough room, but those must be some big tanks...

I think that setup would work well. I wouldn't even bother trying to get part of the box to fit in to the trunk, you'll have more than enough room for the single 12" in the back seat area. Plus, if the compressors are as you say, you'll want to seal off the trunk as much as possible.
Definitely port the box... fire the sub forward or upwards and, if done right, it should sound pretty good.
Unless you're really good with glass and woodworking though, I would definitely have a pro do this sort of job

So cone facing out? (forward). Yeah, it'll be someone else working on the box.
