Amazing article about the industry....

So I read an article this evening before I left the shop which is entitled "Cause stock sucks!! The history of bad sound."
This article was about how the automotive manufacturers make claims of incredible sound quality with their "upgraded" stereo systems which are outrageously priced and sound like A$$, and how in the aftermarket a system that will sound better by a long shot will only cost a fraction of the factory upgrade.
The article also goes on about how the car manufacturers have tried to stop us (the aftermarket industry) over the years, and how we overcame these things.
So I cant remember what mag it was in but I have it at the shop so I will post the name of it in the morning....... Man I'm a dumbass

I think there have been many articles on the subject over the the last 20 years or so. I think I can even remember a few from the mid to late 80's in CSR,CA&E and later in AS&S. Anyway I'm very impressed with the way the industry has managed to keep aftermarket car audio still available for these new cars. My biggest peeve is with the obvious intent to deter aftermarket audio with stupid in car ergonomics(early 90's GM dash placement(regals) and Ford's oblong/oval radios),at least a lot of the japanese still had double din openings as well as Chrysler with their 11/2 din are still ok. Some of the new stuff is even worse, like separating controls from cd slots and totally integrating audio with hvac controls...just sucks!

The stock steering wheel controls are nice but they serve the same purpose, they encourage drivers to stay stock.
Are there kits to integrate those controls into aftermarket decks? I know there were some IASCA instals a couple years ago where the HU looked stock but operated an aftermarket deck

I personally take comfort in knowing that a stereo was engineered and factory installed.. that way there is no chance of altrenator malfuntioning.. or electrical fires or so-on.. its all completely factory.. so I dont really mind paying the extra $$$.
Like I used to work at a Ford dealership.. there were a few mustangs we had there: that had this optional "Mach 1000" sound system.
It was (no joke.. this is factory from Ford... its now dis-continued I think once the new Mustangs came out)
but it came with two 10" subs.. one in each corner and a full amp rack in the trunk..: which housed 4 silver amps side by side. It looked awesome.. with custom LED lighting that matched the cars exterior color. You should have seen it.. it really was as cool as it sounds.
And it was LOUD too.. I can't believe how much bump it had for a factory stereo.. like it would rattle the trunk a fair bit.. and shake the hell out of the mirrors.
It wasn't bad at all for a factory set-up.. and it was all problem free.. with no chance of RCA's coming loose or whatever. It was just a reddi-made sound system. Not bad for a $1100 Option.. I dont think that is over-priced at all.
But thats just my $0.02
(Did I mention that was a factory option?!!!!)
