Question

Hey, my car has the factory installed amp for the 4 main speakers and thats fine. However I have a sealed box 12" Pioneer sub.
I want an amp to power it. I don't want anything insane loud or anything like that. I just want to add some nice bass.

I was thinking of the RF 201s Punch amp. It does 200w at 4ohms.

I know I will not need anything louder then that. Is that amp going to be decent enough for what I want?

Also the store dudes were trying to tell me that I needed 4 guage wire for the RF or Sony amps. For that little amp 8 guage should be just fine right?

Thanks,

oglsmm

first of all what is the watts on the pioneer sub that you have? than you can see if that amp will be fine or not.

and 8 gauge for that much power is fine. ususally you will go to 4 gauge if its above 500 watts or so i believe. if im wrong plz correct me

If you plan on moving up to more/bigger amps down the road, 4AWG is a good way to go. If not, go with the 8 probably.

I'd do 4 gauge just because if you upgrade down the road it's already there and you wont need to buy again.. and.. it can't hurt to have more

Someday you might want to add a nice amp and main speakers to the system and then you would be kicking yourself for not just doing the 4g route in the first place. Or, you will change cars, not have a good sounding factory front stage in it and then you will need 2 or more amps and bigger wire run. Either way, for the price difference, run 4g.
