In the winter i take my subs out of the car just because i throw stuff in my trunk like shovels and scrapers. anyways i wanted to put my single jbl 12 in the spot of my sub for my home theatre.

i listen to music on it more than movies so big bass would be great. now i mocked it up, using a jbl 3501 amp and a jbl gto 12" sub, i used a 300w pc power supply thats rates for 20A at the 12v rails, and just as a test, i seen the power supply cuts out at around 13A when the amp pulls it.

if i were to get, lets say a 700w supply that puts out 56A at the rails, you guys think it would work?

the amp is 350wRMS, its jbl's match to the sub, and in my car with the deck this thing sucked (my decks fault)... hooked up in here this thing is hitting a whole range of lows, very clean and loud. just wondering if itll work...

and BTW i know it been asked before but usually guys ask for 1000w amps, and people tell them supplys wont do it, but im thinking with a smaller 350, a 700w supply might do the trick

 

Sure it will work but for less money you can get a 110vac amplifier in the classifieds. Do you need a built-in crossover?

 

i dont think i need a built in crossover... my receiver has a sub-out...

what kind of 110v amp would i need? the sub it dual 4ohm, so would it have to be 8 to run on a normal home theatre amp?

 

A dual 4 ohm sub can be wired in series for a single 8 ohm load or you could just wire each coil to a separate amp channel (preferred). 110v amps do not have to drive 8 ohm loads, most will be fine with 4 ohms. Only the garbage ones will have problems at 4 ohms and only at high volume for extended periods, for home theater you will be fine with any half decent one.
