Amp Shopping
Hey,
Currently i've got my 2 12" Infinity 1230W's in a 1.25cu.ft. sealed box. I've got a kenwood 4ch amp bridged to 2ch, 200W RMS each channel. The infinity's usually like 300W each tho, and i'm not liking the fact that on hot summer days, the trunk of my black car gets decently hot, such that my amp overheats and shuts off for a few seconds, before cutting back in.
So, the time has come to get a monoblock amp for the subs and then i can throw the amp onto the other speakers. (i planned ahead
) However, i'm having trouble picking out an amp to fit my needs.
1. Its gotta be class D cuz my alternator is pretty weak in my 1.6EL, and i don't want to be killin the electrical system too badly until i get the alternator upgraded.
2. I'm lookin for something about 800W RMS into 2ohms.
3. I don't wanna spend a lot of moneys :P
I was gonna get a kac-9102 (to match my other amp), but they're discontinued and/or sold out. I don't really like the looks of the new ones.. (9103s)
sooo... any advice? i was lookin at a few diff ones.
MA Audio HK800D Amp: Mono(I'm leaning towards this one, but i'm not really sure about MA quality)
MA Audio HK1000D Amp: Mono(This one's only 20 bucks more for an extra 200 watts... in case i want to upgrade)
Audiobahn A12005DN Amp: Mono (Audiobahn quality??)
or, should i say **** that and pay up for a RF or something? I don't mind paying a lil extra, but i was hoping for something between 200-300$
Thanks guys.

OLD SCHOOL
Anything made by ZED... Talk to Cutra. Top notch old school stuff in your price range,
I've always run Old School and after running a newer amp high end amp, I've gone back to old school and will never go back.
The Class D power supply is only going to draw at MOST 5 amps less at pure PEAK output (which I doubt anyone listens to their stereo at 100% volume ALL the time)

Well what can I say,
the proof is in the amp that you buy.
Zed made amps are solid and well made.
If you think about it, these amps are 15 plus years old
and they are going strong.
I don't know if you will see today's amps still kicking around in 15 years yet I guess time will tell.
I will say that my most recent amp was built by Zed audio the ESX back in 1997. That's 10 years ago.
I have over a dozen ESX amps some new some used.
They all rock and have never been repaired.
Not to mention the old Hifonics amps that I have.
Actually i'm selling the VI series on ebay right now under my id cutra*.
I just have way too many amps.
Thanks for the credit tonez735.
You too know first hand that the best amps in our minds are the older "old school" amps.
p.s. the Zapco old Z line was awsome also.
I would never get rid of mine.
Good luck amp shopping.
