Hey guys, My JL components finally came in, I got the 5.25" VR series for my front doors. I already have 5x7 Clarion coaxials in the back. Does hooking up speakers to an amp instead of the deck make a big difference? Would it be better to amplify all 4 with a 4-channel amp, or just the JL's since they're higher quality with a 2 channel amp? Just asking because if I see a good deal on a used 4-channel or 2-channel amp for cheap, if it would be worth it to pick one up.

Yes, Huge difference. 2 chan vs 4 chan? Well thar just depends on your application, and needs.

Well, the stuff that came wiht my car was a 12" pioneer in box with a rockford 150a2 amp. I'm putting in my good system along with the speakers sometime this week, which is 2 10" DVC Pioneers in a ported box, and a Clarion 401.2 amp. Would that rockford 150a2 be good for amplifying the JL speakers, the recommended RMS power range to them is 15-100.

It would be a great little amp for the front speakers.

the 150a2 is a great little amp ........should power those comps nicely

Ok, so I guess my next question is : If I'm running 2 amps, how would the wiring go, and will I need a cap? Now the 150a2 is already hooked up in the car, so would I just buy another wiring kit for the Clarion 401.2, or how would it work? If I need a cap, I don't know much about them, what am I looking for in one (I'll probably get one off eBay).

Forgot to mention, my car is a 1990 5.0L Ford Mustang, and I think the stock alt does 75 amps?

no cap needed don't waste money on that

what size is the wire running to the 150a2 now if it's 4 gauge or bigger just get a couple distribution blocks to split the wire to both amps

I'm guessing the wiring is 8 gauge, and what is a distribution block?

use this fused block for the posative wire (remember to get fuses)

and this solid block for the ground

you should be able to pick some up at your local shop

you can probably get away with the 8 gauge kit for both amps, but I would buy a 4 gauge kit and replace the 8 gauge wire and use the blocks...... you can run 8 guage from the blocks to each amp since it's a short run

Ok, that website looks good, if I order those 2 items, I'd probably also order one of the 4-gauge amp kits from there too, which do I want, the KOLAK4 or KOLAK44? Also, what other fuses will I want to order, so that I get everything all at once. Will I need any other wiring while I'm at it? And I guess when everything is installed, if I notice lights dimming, that means get a cap?
