lol don't worry i knew this thing was crappy, but i found a solution to my problem. first off, my REM wire was crimped wrong, so atleast i got back to the state where one of 2 speakers worked. I assumed one of the channels is simply fried so i intertwined the positives of the two speakers and connected them to one channel in Mono. the same ofcourse for the grnds. Well, it works, but it sounds cruddy above 30 volume. Hence i will replace the wires with thicker ones (I'm currently using wires that look like they're thinner than 20 gage wires). Hopefully this will improve the sound a bit. I will also have to tweak with the bass/volume/treble to get some sort of clarity too. This is only temporary so I'll be looking for a real amp soon. I was thinking of buying a new amp and using it to power a pair of 10"s or maybe a single 12" sub. then throwing out my old amp, and just using my front and rear speakers for mids/highs only. Hopefully my 200W JVC deck can handle them. If not im afraid the good old deck will have to go too . You guys got any suggestions of what I should buy? keeping in mind that I'm a student working part-time and not looking for stupid loud power, but rather enough rattle in my trunk to sway my head back and forth . no but seriously I'll need:

2 new 6X8"s in the front (stupid mazda's and their 6X8" mountings!)
A new amp to power subs
possibly (depending if my current deck can handle that configuration) a new deck

Anyone got any suggestions? It'd be nice if i could pay about $500 for those 3 items, (i can get a sub off a buddy so don't worry about that part). I just want a clear cut sound, with probably an open-box subwoofer system to avoid that "bass delay" feeling i get in the cars of my friends, which seem to chip the paint off their quarterpanels, rather than entertain me.
thanks,
Greg

I strongly advise you go to a local shop or dealer to give you proper advice when making your buying decision. Also, if you're going to get subs off your friend, you need to know what is available to you. You cant just look at the wattage rating, you have to factor in things such as impedance etc. Know what subs you can get, then you would be able to get an amp that's compatible. If you dont, then more than likely you'll be one of those guys who has a horrible sounding system and doesnt know why or how to fix it or even worse, doesnt know it sounds horrible....Seek advice from a pro before you make any purchases....Also, dont install it yourself...Let a pro do it...

Yes going to a local shop will help you, or maybe your friend with the subs will help. But you will need to know the impendence and RMS power of the subs to choose a proper amp to power them. as for the deck, whats the model # and do you know how many pre outs it has

I suspect there is a problem with your wiring.... CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS 3X BEFORE PITCHING THE AMP..... LOL !

have you checked that the RCA's are both working ? I remember having the same problem back in the day; and thats what it was... (noob me didn't know to check things like that back then )

anyway, the speakers working in turn with the bridge switch has to do with the how the inputs and outputs are setup... check it out and let us know what happens....

The guy i got the amp off, remembered that one of the channel's was fried so I'm willing to accept that lol. yea, one channel sucks! I'll get the model # of the deck for you tomorrow, but i know i wont be keeping it long since it only has 2 outs (left and right for the rear only). this amp is definitely temporary. As far as subs go, I'll need to learn more about them i guess, cuz the friend that i keep referring to insisted on alpine Type-R's around the whole car, nothing more nothing less, then i told him my budget and an akward silence fell upon the conversation lol! Anyways, I also discovered 2 additional speaker mounts in my rear doors . This means i plan to have 6 mid/high speakers, which i hope can run off the deck (not enough funds to have 2 amps). Any suggestions on subs (you're right i should've asked about those first, then pick an amp from there). As far as installation goes, i'm gonna do it myself anyway simply because i find it the best way to learn. I'll have my friend's number handy and a fire extinguisher near by! Well anyway, i was wondering if any of you could suggest a pair or single sub that maybe you've had good experiences with (please keep in mind im pretty much poor lol).

I'm in Mississauga (just west of Toronto, and just east of hamilton ). Yeah my system sucks lol, the deck itself is a JVC KD-G300. I gotta begin upgrading soon, but everything's so expensive! jeez lol

Can someone suggest a setup? I'll be browsing for the items soon! amp, deck (must have atleast 4 channels), sub(s) and 6X8's

when I was looking for a new deck, the kenwoods had pretty much the best features for the money. Pioneer, Panasonic, and Clarion come to mind too for a good mid priced deck

Well first what budget do you have to work with and what type of listening and tunes do you listen to?
