anyone have experience with the jbl power series?
im looking into the jbl p1224 and i was wondering if anyone knows anything about the sub. not too many reviews that i can find. i heard u can get them from bestbuy so thats why im a little curious to how they perform. i read that there somewhat built similar to the gti?

had a pair of the previous power series subs (p 1220)...nice, fat bass..very good sound quality and value. I assume the new model is essentially the same except for the ridiculous frame size, almost the size of a 15" in diameter (the frame not the cone). Assuming you have the space...it's a good sub.

I sold them with the previous car...the whole system (young dude liked it a lot and paid me pretty close to what i paid brand new). I have had type r's since...previous models and now the new models...very good sub and you can get them really cheap on ebay...plus they are a typical size for a 12 unlike the jbls.

no not at all...type r's sound very good if they are set up properly. It's just most guys get them and beat them up or build a crappy box for them. I've never had a problem with SQ with them..tight, clean, and can get deep in the right box. The R's are tighter than the JBL's, the JBL's have a fatter bass sound...I like them both, and would use either, except the new JBL's are way too big for a 12...they should redesign the basket/frame and put them back to a standard size. As far as the id max vs the 2 jbl's...I doubt that the single id max can move more air than 2 of the jbls...it's a great sub, but it's hard to move that much air with a single 12" sub.

I've ran a power series setup for the last 2 years, 6.5 comps and 2 P1222's. Currently the subs are in 8 cubes. I am using an Audiocontrol HPX as a master/sub control for my low end, which comes in handy depending on the source material. My head unit is DD and the sub volume is buried deep into the menus, so I praise that HPX. I am using the passive crossovers and have added an old EQL for tweaking my front end, though am running into some alt whine since adding the EQL. All in all I have been very happy with the results. I tried alpine r comps in place of my powers and hands down I kept the powers. Side by side the power comps are dwarfed by the old type r's.
