Bass maximizers

Do bass maximizers or 'enhancers' add synthetic bass or do they simply boost actual bass from the source? I like the idea of more bass but I also want to maintain the integrity of the original source music.

Any thoughts?

... well thier nice to have, but if they are used wrong can **** your speakers up. if you want bass buy subs. regualre speakers are not ment to make lots of bass they are mainly for trebal and stuff. not boom boom. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Depends on the product you are talking about...

Most bass boost circuits will probably boost the signal and widen the bandwidth... other devices may moddify the singal in some other way...

I think someone is selling one device in the 4sale section that creates 2nd order harmonics that your average midbass or sealed sub can play giving the 'appearance' of a lower fundamental...

Got a great review in CA&E mag by Eric Holdaway. Supposed to creat the illusion of lower bass from smaller speakers, and even do this with less excursion from the speaker. As Haunz said, something to do with harmonics and psycho-acoustics I think....

the 103 is supposed to be a GREAT unit. Ive heard many great reviews about them. If you are looking for somthing like this, get the Maxxbass 103.
