There's a Canadian based company called Ballard power, that designing self contained fuel cell power generators or somthing, I believe that they have a couple running some mobile telephone antenna's or repeaters in some remote areas of our beutiful country. My old man has some shares, I've seen some of they're idea's and there pretty cool

I feel the same way. I know a couple of people in BC who are doing exactly that, but unfortunately, there are no free rides. All systems, whether they be solar, wind, or microgeneration usually require a storage mechanism of some sort...that is unless you have a generating system that allows for production greater than your peak demand, and you willing to go "off line" during the times when you don't need to use as much power.

To complicate matters, here in Ontario where I presently live, winter throws a significant curve as opposed to BC where the demands are less. Still I do know of a couple of people who do it, but do it with the understanding that it requires compromises (i.e. not running the tv, stereo, vacuum, oven...all at once).

I'd love to do exactly that...
