Best 6.5 comps?

I'm going to upgrade my 12 yr old 5.25 MB Quart components. What are your opinions on 6.5's in the $300-400 price range? I'm using a Orion 400.4 amp to run the fronts.

TIA.

I had the RE XXX mids for a while and they were pretty sweet. That was before they released their full comp set. Not sure what they go for now.

Steve?

Grab a set of Focals.

I picked up a set on here for around $200 and they sound amazing. I've listened to a few sets in store and they are amazing IMO.
The set I grabbed were 165v2 Polyglass series... can't wait for my install possibly this weekend too

New speakers or used? Eclipse, Focal, Macrom, Infinity, JBL......all have great speakers in this price range. Buying a used speaker is a total crapshoot. A used amp or cd is a much better choice for used, a speaker being the most abused part of a stereo is better left to new with warranty.

You can get a set of Focal's in that price range or the Polk audio line is very good as well.

There is tons in that range. Go do some listening but I think you anwsered the question yourself really. Go for a set of 6.5" MB Quarts. You have been happy with them for 12years otherwise they would have been replaced by now. Correct?

You've had MB Quart for 12 yrs? I'm impressed. Why not look into a set of new quart? My RCE-216 sound pretty good for the buck. 164.00 US, turned into 220. canadian all in.

You may want to consider auditioning the tweets in the mentioned comp sets/manufacturers. There's often quite a lot of differences and preferences for the high freq. sounds. Example, some think MB tweets can be too harsh. It's personal. Enjoy the new comps - you can't go wrong with what's been suggested (but can I throw in CDT?). Cheers.
