Hi all,

just wondering if anyone can make any recommendations as far as what 6x9's sounds good running off a deck's amp.

I'm running an Alpine CDA-9825 - 18Wx4 RMS, 50W peak.

I'm running a set of 5 1/4 components up front (100W RMS), but I'm looking for something to give me some better mid-bass, and give the passengers in the back better sound. They will be getting installed in speaker boxes mounted in the back-sides of my Isuzu Rodeo.

So far I've been thinking Infinity Reference, low-end JL's, low-end Boston Accoustics... has anyone tried Alpine's type-S 6x9s?

All suggestions appreciated!

It all depends on the 6x9's rating. I'd stick with the lower end ones, like you've said.

I have two sets of Kenwood's top of the line 6x9. I had them hooked up to my Clarion 50x4 amp, and they sounded weak... Lacked in good punchy bass.

Now I give them ~100w each, and they sound great!

Look for a good efficiency rating on the speakers so that they will produce some output with the smaller amplifier your Alpine CD player has.
In my experience, Boston Acoustics' entry line of coaxials & triaxials were quite efficient.

the sps690a type s will work well, and they dont sound horrible, and they are quite efficient, and the sony xss690cx sound very good with loads of bass output for a 6x9 off of a deck. if you are not amping them stay away from the"high end"6x9s.

^^ FYI Pioneer Premier TS-D801P are 6"x8".

Fusion FPS-692 have a good bang for the buck.
Soft dome (on a swivel too), rubber surrounds, decent efficiency, and handle a ton if you ever amp 'em.

Had the alpine s-series 6x9, and the clarion spr 6985 are in my younger brother's car. The Alpine is amazing with just the deck( had it powered by the cda-9827) but I changed to match my front JBL's and they didn't handle enough power for my purposes. The sound is crisp and clean with good bass performance. The Clarions are not as loud with just the deck, but are smoother due to the silk tweeters and sound excellent with an amp(also more expensive by about $50.00). If you are going to stay with just deck power go with the Alpines. hope that helps.

Hi guys - thanks for all the replies!

That's the great thing with this forum... people actually take the time to give an intelligent answer, no BS.

I'll be hitting the demo boards tomorrow - I'll let everyone know what I end up with!
