best port tuning for Rockford Punch P2 12"

I am going to be building a box for a Rockford Punch P2 DVC 12". The box will be ported and I will be using the Rockford suggested box size of 1.79 ft3.

I am looking for anyone who has any experience with the subs to inform me of a good port tuning frequency. The port will extend vertically outside the box (alteast partially depending on length) and fixed to an mdf baffle in the old "by nine" hole.

Rockford suggests tuning the port to 39hz. I listen to a lot of rock and some rap/hip hop. I want the subwoofer to get good output in the range of frequencies that you can feel in your chest but also be able to play decently low.

So chime in someone. Let me know your thoughts.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation

I dont think it is nesessary to port thru your rear deck.

If you wanna use a generic slot ported enclosure design, this is one I designed and built a while back for a 12" P2

what is that box tuned to? What my goal for the subwoofer was to get the highest output in to the cabin while still maintaining a good sounding system. So with porting up through the old speaker holes would that not increase the bass in to the cabin and thus make it louder? If I am off base here please let me know as the less amount of work I would have to do the better.

Keep it simple. Your not running a billion watts. A simple slot port enclosure will satisfy your needs. The enclosure posted is 1.95 cubic feet @ 36.5hz

Much appreciated. The more the simple the better. I was just a little concerned as the box the sub in is currently 1.65 tuned to 32 hz and the bass is lacking for rock music. Sounds alright with rap though

The higher tuning will help with the rock music and the larger cubic footage will keep the rap music sounding deep.

If you want, I will PM you the dimensions tommorow night. (I'm not on the computer that has Sketch-up on it)

Although I do appreciate that I have my measurements. I measured it all out today. My main concern was that if I was tuning to 39hz that it would be right where I want in for the type of music I listen to.
