blown sub?
#1
****, i just bought this sub and amp combo, and i think now the sub is blown... when i try to turn it on, the sub makes this cracking sound, which i think is the voice coil jumping around, and its no longer attached to the cone, but i could be wrong... is there any way to fix that? recoil or something? or should i not bother with that and just get a new sub? the sub was Xtant A

If it's warrantied, obviously get it fixed; but since it's probably not then you could either have it repaired at your cost by having the coil changed, or do it yourself (not too suggested if you don't have lots of time on your hands).

You may have overheated the voice coil, and it probably separated from the former it's wound on.
Don't play it any longer, remove it, and send it to me to rebuild the voice coil. (if we can't repair it, we'll send it back, and you can look for a replacement)

BTW, If you just bought the amp&sub , and the sub is already blown, is it possible that the amplifier gain matching haven't been set ?

Due to cost issues, We do not recone woofers in canada. In almost all cases we will replace the woofer under warranty. The Xtant A series woofers are no longer in production.
Did you purchase the woofer at an authorized dealer.?

Check and make sure the spider is properly attached....
If that is not the problem then the coil is either missaligned.. (damaged from bottoming out, or while leaving the gap) the former has let go... or the coil expanded and partially seized or pulled apart... probably can't fix it without a recone...
Also possible it was a defecive sub with a missaligned coil from the get-go...
What is the sub rated for, how much were you giving it, and what kind/size box ?
If you decide to replace see if you can take the old one back....

I will venture a guess that the sub is no longer under warranty. If it was purchased and installed by an authorized Xtant dealer it would carry a 3 year warranty so you might want to look into that but the A212S is about 4 to 5 years old in terms of production run.
