BMW 3 Series (2004 E46) Advice on speakers to match my sub / amp

I just got a Memphis 12" sub (I'm not sure what model) in a sealed box and a JL 500/5 black edition from a friend now I just need advice on what speakers to go with it I was at the car audio store and they recommended me Alpine type r or the JL C3.
