Boats, ships and yachts.

Hey everyone,

I have the opportunity to begin potential work in the boating world in regard to mobile electronics and audio systems for boats. Does the 12v world of cars transfer directly to these kinds of situations or am I getting in over my head?

Marine batteries are 12v so I would assume there are quite a few similarities. Biggest change is probably wearing a life jacket while you work.

If its in the cabin there is nothing different from car audio to worry about. Its when you have speakers out side the boat that you have to worry about water, salt, and stuff like that. Larger boats usually have good battery setups so it should be nice to work with.

Passing wiring in some houseboat style yachts can also be a freakin nightmare but overall. Combine custom home audio, and 1V car audio and you have boats

you need to get into small places and need to know what set up you are on (house, main ,or full)or 1st bank of 12v 2nd bank or 1+2 = 12v max amps

Just remember though, if you butcher someones boat... they will most likely butcher you.

BOAT = Bust out another thousand

...and If you think its hard to get car audio customers to pay... wait till you get a boat customer

you need to get the thinking to the boat work in the boat and where are you cutting things up ..... on a dock mmmm not ..... in the boat mmmm not .... so if you need to rip wood or do big cuts there is not a lot of room on the deck of a boat and it moves too

Marine audio is similar to car audio in many ways but the marine product lines are different than car audio and they need to be as they can get wet on both sides. I am not sure you know what your getting into and there is more fabrication work in a single boat than in a months worth car stereo builds.

and while boat owners used to have money (prior to buying their boat) remember "...and If you think its hard to get car audio customers to pay... wait till you get a boat customer "
