Im guessing it's design. Im sure Kicker applied for a Patent number with the U.S. government so no other company can copy thier design of the substation.

A patent provides the right to exclude others from making, using, selling, offering for sale, or importing the patented invention for the term of the patent, which is usually 20 years from the filing date. A patent is, in effect, a limited property right that the government offers to inventors in exchange for their agreement to share the details of their inventions with the public. The oldskool kicker was great... the newer stuff is meh...

So I did a search for US PAtent 355,193 and only one came up from 1886. Surprisingly it was unrelated to the Substation

And I would take a current CVR driver over that old Comp..

if you need a good amp for that substation i have a zapco AG 350. old skewl white on black hand made in the USA. mint like your substation. its still in box with manuals.
