you guys sound like sq guys. all you need are highs and lows, they average out to mids. I know cone area plays a role, but realistically speaking, two 12''s gives 226''sq where an 18'' gives 254''sq, with with a difference of 30 inches, its like have a 6 '' driver as well. may not work in practice but it sounds good in theory. now with either set up my guess is the tuning plays a large role in how it will sound. the box I had my 18'' is probably the lowest tuned box I've had with this much power, and it destroyed the lows, and I'm hoping if I do the 4 12''s with a tuning int he mid 30's I'll achieve the same results. I would like to keep my back row but if it has to go then fine. like I said though, my concern is sound. I've only ever run 12''s before and they seem to give a really good balance of everything, but the 18'' is getting lower, and I just want to know if its the sub or the box that is responsible for that

By the sounds of it ... you know you want 2 18's.... :smokin:

I want a job lol. then I can start paying for all of this. I got my refund so its helping, but its the decision of what to run thats killing me. I know what 18''s I'm running, and I have it almost narrowed down for 12''s. I hate bass...

"I hate bass" LOL! You should decide the low frequency that you can't live without. 35hz is a good mix, with 2 18's that's still going to give you nice lows on the roll off, more so than 4 12's. I tuned to 37hz and on Lollipop by Lil Wayne it would slam it until it hit that one low note and I realised I was missing out on the frequency I wanted, it's at ".. like burp, burp, and made that ass jump like JURP, JURP", it was really weak when he says jurp. You might as well do a 4th order with the sealed box tuned around 30hz and the ported side 40hz, if that's doable.

Both box and the driver impacts the ability to play low just as much. But also the car's interior plays a role.

In any case, a small driver can go just as low and loud as a bigger driver can as long as it can displace as mutch air. So the smaller one will need much more xmax to get the same results as the larger surface driver and possibly more power as usually the bigger driver will be more efficient.

In any case it's a combo of both, with the right combo of 12's I am sure you could displace more air, therefore go lwoer and louder then the 18 you currently have. but then it might be possible to find an 18 that can then displace more air then those 12's and so on.

And by the way you should tune it to 36hz because according to that show with Xzibit it's "the precise frequency for hard hitting base" hehehe :p

but it is the precise frequency for hard hitting bass lol oh man I remember that episode. but yeah, I think I might do the 1 18'' for a while. I mean realistically I just need to win 39.9 and I'll be happy until next year. I'll probably quit after this season and just become a ground pounder

139.9 with 2 18s or 4 12s? Keeping the volume down or what? Shouldn't that hit 148-152?
