Brahma Amp??

What is the best choice amp for a single 15"Brahma.
I don't even have in a box yet so suggestions please.

I'm going with an Eclipse 8445 HU
Everything else in my car is PG. (amps, EQ, line drivers, caps, cables, distubution blocks, speakers, tweeters etc..I mean everything.)

What enclosure is the driver going into and what do you want out of the bass end when it's finished?

Crescent 05-20-2006 08:33 AM

I havent decided on the enclosure that is why I am asking for some advice...since i have speaker selectors in my car this sub is only going in there for pure Spl.

I already run 2 10"Pg ti's & 2 12" Pg ti's strictly for Sq

I just want the Brahma switched on for Pure pounding.

With the 8445 going in, eliminate all of the line drivers as they will no longer be needed. The fewer times you manipulate the signal, the better off you will be. Same with the EQ, you are probably not going to need it any more either.

Cancellation becomes a major issue if you're thinking about running the Brahma in the same frequency range as other drivers.
Why not just build a bottom end that has beautiful SQ properties togethor with all the output you want as well? That would be my recommendation.

If you could get your hands on a x1200.1 or wait a month or so I know the new Radial SD PG amps are coming. Its nice to keep it one brand and definately nothing wrong with the PG products. A little high priced but nice :)

If I was buying a new amp PG wouldn't be anywhere near the top of my list no matter what my price range was. I sold PG years ago and had a hardon for it but they lost my support in their products. Let's hope for PG's sake their new Radial line is more reliable than their previous few years (and they better perform decent because they look ugly as hell).

No or very little issues here with there Octane or Xenon series.

Crescent 05-20-2006 05:01 PM

I've had zero issues with my PG stuff..although I have mostly haveTi series & Zx..I do also have some 12" xenons & 5 1/14 xenons..no problems there either..I personally love PG...just not to keen on the Octanes.

But I need a amp to push my 15" Brahma....I was thinking xenon 1200.1 but wanted others inputs....ideally yes I would like everything to stay PG but since I tossed in the Brahma somethin else could also be. The amp will be hidden though so everything looks
PG except the Brahma.

Hardwrkr 05-20-2006 05:12 PM

The ZXti's were the last series of PG amps that I felt confident in.

Anyways, if you're dead set on adding the Brahma to the pair of 12's and 10's you currently run (and again I would truly prefer you build a better bottom end instead of having to switch over like you're planning - ie. you could drop the pair of 12ti's and add a second Brahma 15" and run the pair of Brahma
15's in a ported application with proper power and it should be loud enough for even the deafest of ears) then look for an amp ~1200-1500rms in your budget. I'm guessing you have the standard D2 VC version so you have lots of choices. A RF T10001 would be great and do at least 1400rms+ just as one example.

Brad-S.A. 05-20-2006 05:19 PM

Ya I mentioned the PG cause you already have a whole system with PG. Like someone said earlier 1000-1500w rms something beefy, a Memphis, Mmats, Earthquake, USamps, American Bass, Orion, Zapco or something of that nature. These guys usually rate there amps at 12-13.8Volts not 14.4v so you really get the power you are paying for.

which generation of brahma's are we talking about? impossible to make suggestions without knowing ;)

Crescent 05-21-2006 08:43 AM

I'm using the MK2 Brahma.

Hardwrkr what do u mean by switctchinh over...I am keeping my exact setup but just wanted to add another sub for more Rumble. Like stated b4 this sub will only be on for when I want mass bass via a speaker selector.

Hardwrkr 05-21-2006 10:50 AM

Using a different driver/enclosure to cover the same frequency's as another is unpredictable. It's best to build one system and tuen it to what you want it to do best. If your current PG Ti's are giving you the SQ you want but are lacking in output well there are lot's of great drivers out there that can give you as good and better SQ [I]and[I] much more output in the same package.

Are your Ti's ported or sealed? If your running them sealed simply switching to a ported enclosure may give you the increased output you desire while retaining the SQ if done properly.

Or if you really want it to wang, try a pair of 15's designed for excellent SQ and output. A pair of OZ Matrix Elite 15's, a 1500-2000rms amp to run them, and a ported enclosure could easily achieve beautiful SQ (IMO a much better sounding and performing driver than the PGTi) and with enough output to take your head off if desired. Plus, compared to what you're currently planning, is less wiring, less space, and I'll bet my ass that it would have better SQ and more output (and the results are predictable).
That's just one example as I can think of a few drivers that could give fantastic results and won't break the bank.

the MkII Brahma's can reach full excursion at around 1kw in a Qtc .710 enclosure.
