mine was free also its luck of the draw in my personal opinion. You get ppl that say sony sucks and then you'll see someone with an amazing sony system and then you buy crap. Luck of the draw.

i think you's people who have had problems with kenwood have
1 either had it serviced by a place that dons't do very good work
and are probably in alberta
i highly doubt due to shipping cost that they are shipping them to toronto
i use downtown video in toronto very good turnaround time and very few comebacks

2 being screwed around by your dealer
your dealing with a dealer that dos't care about you
they should treat you as they would like to be treated
some dealers don't want to be bothered helping out there customers if there's no money involved

i have had customers that have gotten stuff well past there warranty period repaired by kenwood
and im not taking in terms of months

and this is something that i have never seen done by any of my other manufacturers

and as a kenwood dealer i personally would have taken care of all problem you's have had there's no reason not to

One things I would say quality wise he alpine was sharper in sound, my only beef the pre-outs needing the deck at +15 always to get any bass out of it. I had the Premier 740mp and I had bass settings very low and it was pretty loud. That 9835 how is it for the sub out? does the setting need to be cranked? I didn't like the idea I had it +15 and the gain on the amp had to be cranked and still needed bass boost.

Actually now that I think of it, it might have just been the amp cause it was the same way on the kenwood deck....

I am interested in this 9835 as well, I was gonna go eclipse but I'm thinking maybe 750$ is abit to rich for what I would use it for...
Hey man, I had a similiar experience with a 7894 Alpine. I am now running the 9835, and the sub level does not need to be up nearly as high, I find, partly because you can preset the EQ to boost in the lower regions, which allows me to keep my sub level around +3 or 4 most of the time, depending on the cd or if it is an MP3. I am very happy with this deck so far. </font>
Yes , he knows what he is saying. I have also had a 7894 and it did the same thing but now i have the 9835. Its a good deck and you don't need to have the sub level up so far. I just set the MX to level 3 and turn the sub level all the way down. (most of the time) depending on the cd or the type of music or whatever. you get the idea

Well it's back, and working fine again.

The explanation? "The tech said that a service bulletin was issued on this HU long ago, an improper rating resistor was installed, it's amazing it worked at all. No idea why the three times it's been in before they didn't replace it."

Sounds like a load o' horse pucky to me... a resistor could make the laser assembly freak out, bind up, and fail??? Three times?!? Sure.

But, it's back, and working fine again. Neither I nor my dealer have much faith in it though, he's hanging onto the loaner unit for me, as we figure this thing will die again in another month (or less).

As for pinhead's comments... Yes, it was sent to Kenwood Canada for repair. Not a dealer, not a service centre, but to the manufacturer themselves. Each time, not just this time. Shipping costs? No big deal.

Screwed by my dealer? Not at all, Tom has been great through all of this, he knows that I have much more money to spend there in the future. We've been doing business for 13 years, I give him good service, he gives me good service. I send him lots of business, he does the same for me. It's a win win situation.

grizz i have been a kenwood dealer for over 15 years
they don't do service like your saying im sorry i don't see it and can't
i would say its going to a service depot in calgary
ask yourself why would they ship it all the way to toronto with shipping cost at what they are nowadays
did you see the service invoice?
and may i ask why don't you have a new unit
i know my customer would
and third of all it took over two weeks to get it back
if i send a unit in more than once that piece will be back in my shop in less than 3 days i will be on the phone to make sure of it does
usual repair turn around is less than a week

if it was a pioneer i could see it they don't know how to get out of there own way

true that mang! I have found with the alpine product that they design their pre-outs to match up well with their amps, if your having a high gain and high sub level issue, i feel for ya. but ive been running different alpine heads in my truck and my car, and seemed to have the best output running a alpine mrdm500, and she's loud and clean, and the gain is very very low, and the sub level on the deck is at 4 or 5!!!! I won't be dealing Alpine for much longer, but damn i'm gonna miss it

I deal with logistics everyday.. for a company it is cheap to ship if they have an account and do volume with the courier..

My Transmitter had to be sent to califoria just to be replaced for my GS Racing SUT..
