Well today I went out an bought an xmas present for myself... a yahama rx-v1500 receiver and a pair os psb image 4t towers. and i am wondering if anyone knows if I can use 1 or 2 IDQ 12" DVC 2 ohm subs with this? I was thinking buying a seperate amp for them theb building a nice enclosure? Will this work or am I outa my mind? If if anyone has links to sites that have info on doin this.....

yes of course you can

do you want to run them with a seperate plate amp powering the subs?

if you were thinking of running them off just the yamaha its not a good idea, although the yammy could power them fine, assuming it accepts a 4 ohm load, but you would need a passie crossover for the subs, and woulnd't be able to run the subs and the towers at the same time most likely.

 

no it only accept down to 6 ohm so i would need seperate amp(s) for the sub(s). how much would a 'plate' amp run me? any links? i am new to home audio and this is my first real system i am trying to put together.

This is definitely not a cheaper alternative but might yield better results. Buy yourself a Audio Control Phase Couples Actuator (series III). It is a low pass / high pass crossover and epicenter are rolled into one. Take the preout from this and fire it into any old tank amplifier from the early 80's to power those babies and the bass will come to life.

It says 512 watts @ 8 ohms so if I used 2 DVC 2 ohm subs I could wire them into 8 ohm then each sub would be getting around 250 watts. Would this amp be any good or will it sound like crap and would Ihave to buy any other peices of equipment? Or should I just stay away from something like this because it is crap?

Go ported (I hope Dukk doesn't see this ) sealed will require a lot more power.
