Canadian Dollar

Now that our buck is worth $.95 US, and predicted to rise further, isn't it time to pressure our wholesalers to adjust costs?
The days of our electronics retailing for 30-40% more than in the US have gone, but the Canadian distributors are still selling at old prices, even tho their costs have dropped by 25% or more.
We're bound to lose a lot of sales to E-Bay and other US internet sites if we don't react in a timely fashion....Christmas is around the corner.

I actually mentioned this to one of my suppliers and they actually said that new pricing was gonna come out!?!?!!? WTF?!?!? I never thought I would get that answer.... either way I guess if we all hammer on suppliers maybe something might happen.

hehe, my dealers favorite question to ask me :P
roughly $.10 in 3 months though, very cool!
copper prices continue to hurt us wire guys...but i wont lie, our next load of wire and brackets and stuff from china is going to be a little lighter on the pocket book...but if that will reach the dealer? remember that this was a quick jump, its gotta maintain for a while before prices change...also gotta remember that shipping is hard from overseas too due to fuel prices...
its one of those wait and see things, and yeah mr2nr is right, dont count on it too soon :P

Steve...the worst part is that some of them even added an extra mark up to accomodate for the dollar potentially dropping further (this was back when the dollar was .75 instead of the .95 it is now)

So add that extra markup to the change in the exchange rate and distributors aren't doing too bad right about now.

You guys also have to think about other factors in pricing besides the loonie. Shipping cost are up at 30-40% also rent etc, has skyrocketed in the last 3 years in Canada. And wages are up as well...people get paid $10+ an hour now, oppossed to $5-7 before. Also when the loonie wasn't doing as well, they did not raise their prices half way through the year...the price of copper (wire) that has to do with China stepping into the electonics world 2 years ago...

Even though our dollar is very close to the USD, we still need to consider economies of scale.

prices will gradually increase if you look at overall cost and do not take competition into consideration...

the summer rush has hit shippers, where most shippers charge 10-15% extra per 40' container for freight due to busy season and extra congestion

gas prices are up, fuel surcharges are soaring...

china is going to introduce a reduction in their export tax refund which will increase costs between 1-8% depending on industry as of july 1st

what does this all mean to the canadian distributor? absolutely nothing... as the guys in the states won't start driving up prices for a few months IMO...
