The strain on the alternator is put there by the demand for power not the extra storage of current a second battery adds. Also just adding a second battery isnt going to do anything in regards to keeping your voltage above 12.4 as thats the voltage of the batterys and from there to 14.4 is alternator based. I went with 2 kinetic 1400's and then also decided to upgrade my alternator. I only got a locally built 180a but saw a noticable improvement. I still see periods of high 11's but thats mostly at idle or some heavy bass.

I've got 3 kinetiks(1engine-2trunk) off my Honda FIT 60+ amp alt and I'm doing just fine.
