Not sure if this would work better in the General Discussion forum but, we'll see. (Thanks guys for movin it, wasn't sure )

I'm looking to get a good alarm for my car. I'm really interested in those animated remote alarms though. Chris B has one.

Reason being I don't see what an alarm will do for me if I don't know that its going off, and at least if someone sets it off by accident I'll be able to save my battery incase its going off for a long time.

So any suggestions guys ? I will be looking to a professional install on this one as well, and I'm well aware of all the prices.

What've you got, and opinons/reviews on your alarms.

go with compustar. i have the 2W8000FM-AS/M. modle and it has never let me down. mine has the 2 way remote so you can see whats going on all the time, it also has a remote start for those cold winter days. the only problem i have is with people who perpusly set off the alarm, just to tick me off, but other then that it's an excelent alarm/starter combo

Where and how much

MR2NR 05-02-2005 07:06 PM

Chunk, you just got the thing.... but it is one great alarm system as well. If you were anywhere near me, I would be setting it off on you all the time. :D

Cavalier Chunk 05-02-2005 07:44 PM

it is a little pricey, but you can't put a price on security. mine costed about 700.00 with trunk sensor, antigrind, but no auto door locks. so i have to lock my doors my self atleaset i have power locks to start with. and as for a place to get one that's kinda a toughy, seeing as you don't have A&B sound out east thier, im not quite sure where you could find it. im sure some poeple on the board here should be able to help.

mr2nr: i think ive had it for about 2 months now. so thats awhile now. well atleast in my books.

Cavalier Chunk 05-02-2005 08:08 PM

ouch man i got toatly jipped off at A&B, they didn't price me for power locks or a third siren and the second one i had to buy seperate.

Blinddemonz 05-02-2005 09:36 PM

Well not to give you guys a HUGE price range as to what I'm lookin at but if all works out with my loan I'll have about $800 left to spend on the alarm. I would like some left over cash to add either cold air intake or modify the exhaust though.

But just to make it clear, I am not gonna cheap out on an alarm, because as my friends know me here I'm very protective of my vehicles. If someone so much as comes close to denting it I'll be right there to give them a tongue lashing if they actually do hit it. especially after my first year of college I came out to a couple guys trying to break into my 1st Gen Z24 in broad(sp) daylight. I had a basic viper alarm that came with the car at that time. It did the job. But I couldn't believe how stupid those guys were, I kind of wish I waited a bit longer to see what they were doing to catch them more in the act, but with that I may have had something else to repair too.

I'm not really interested in the remote starts its not a feature I want or really need. I would just like a good alarm I can feel safe with and that has an animated remote, because as I said if I'm at work I can't hear my alarm going off. With the remote it would make that much difference.

Cavalier Chunk 05-03-2005 06:13 AM

well then you can probalbly take like 150 bucks off the price i just listed.

Blinddemonz 05-03-2005 07:11 AM

Probably yea, I was lookin on ebay last night and some info itself onthe cold air intake and looks like I'll do that before exhaust. Don't need a fart can just yet

Alarm is first before anything though. Does anyone know of places in Toronto or Whitby/Ajax/Pickering for alarms? As I may be going that way on the weekend.

Blinddemonz 05-03-2005 03:01 PM

I pick up my new car this weekend, so now time to shop for the alarm officially.

What do you guys think about buying/installing from Future Shop

Shaughn Murley 05-03-2005 03:08 PM

what are you looking for, an alarm aka noisy car or a security system. There is a big difference between them.

If it's security you're after, ie no one stealing your car, I'd suggest the Clifford G5 product, as it's probably the best at protecting your car from theft. If you want it to make noise if a door gets opened, then even FS can do that for you.

Blinddemonz 05-03-2005 04:03 PM

Furley I'm lookin for an alarm that'll do both I suppose. Or in other words to sum it all up into a nice little box. Stop people from stealing my stereo, car and anything in the car. And I'm looking for an alarm that has the animated remotes.

Shaughn Murley 05-03-2005 04:21 PM

There is nothing that will prevent people from stealing contents of your vehicle, just let you know when it's happening.

My suggestion would be the Viper 5000 then.

zzzzzzz 05-03-2005 04:31 PM

Viper 5000 with 1-2 sets of air horns

Hardcore Rock Superstar 05-03-2005 10:24 PM

I've been very happy with my compustar 2way fm alarm/start combo. Works from ridiculously far away....i like it.

Cost me umm, well ranged from 450 - 800 installed with locks and all I paid about 650 for hte place that i chose. Luckily no one's tried to break into my vehicle with this alarm, as of yet anywho.

I'm aware of this however it reduces the risk and makes some people feel safter that their gear is a bit safer when its better than having nothing at all you know?

Rockney 05-04-2005 09:29 AM

I would only have the install of my alarm if I was comfortable with the staff at that store. My Preference is Viper,, 128 Screaming DB's :D

Yeah thats what I'm worried about with any other store, I trust the people at Sound Concepts because I know them and I know their work.

But here's the kicker I'm not installing ANY piece of audio into my car until I have an alarm. So say when I goto get an alarm anywhere, its just a stock system.

Coffeyman 05-04-2005 03:21 PM

don't know if you can get a copy of the apr/may issue of PAS mag, but they had an extensive review on alarms, don't have one myself, but after reading the review, i'm thinking i might get one and i kinda know what feature i want.

*cough*...i mean i already have a REALLY good alarm - it's like a impermeable fortress....i just want to upgrade it...*cough*

</font>
Thats understood.. In my situation i already had my gear installed.

When you get your gear installed, get it mounted in a way that its hard to remove, some gear sucks for this, like my memphis all 5 fuses are on the bottom of the amp.

Try Safe and Sound in Scarborough. It is located off Kennedy Road (Nantucket) in the same complex as Kennedy Hi-Fi.

I agree^^ the clifford alarm is much better than the compustar, the compustar is an ok combo, but as far as security goes, clifford is way ahead.

Blinddemonz 05-08-2005 10:55 PM

found out my car already has an auto starter in it but i still need an alarm lol

Blinddemonz 05-09-2005 01:12 PM

Alright so it looks like I may be getting a Viper Paging Alarm from Sound Concepts in Belleville, $550 installed.
