Car almost broken into..............
#21
Had a customer in Ottawa got ripped of three or four times...had a sweet Integra, with some nice Alpine.
Put the door lock defenders in with a pager, and he caught the guys breakin in again a week or so later....beat the snot outa one of em, and then called the cops...the punks got charged, but of course got off with dik all. Insurance and cops both told him to move....he didn't, but traded the Integra for a nice new Jeep.
Everything was fine for a few months til they spotted him parking the Jeep. Of course it was gone the next morning, they found it a few days later in a rock pit with both axles busted out, the motor and clutch blown, and not a panel wasn't damaged....So then he moved.
Self centred, egotistical young punks don't give a rat's a$$ about anyone but themselves, and I'm sure they'd blame anyone but themselves (that's you Rockney) for them having had a bad night with the cops. "Geesh, why don't you mind your own business dude, and let us do our thing".... Oh yeah....your car, your business....they're not that smart!

i would say first that you should tell the cops that they should be charge with prowl by night
it is a felony and i know as two punks that tried to break into my car were charged with it
they did no damage
my alarm reacts with the door handle being lifted as well
the cops are probably being lazy
go into the cop shop and inquire ask to speak to there superviser if nothing was done and tell them how you feel
next is do you advertize as in stickers
and second take a look at people you know
sometimes they are the ones or they get there buddies to do it for them
are there people you know who always has there hands on used equipment that there always selling

Prowl by night is rather difficult to prove which is likely why it was not applied in his situation.
If you need an example why then look at it this way; You're out for a walk and you pass by a house with a Ferrari Enzo in the driveway. Will you take a walk around the car to take a look? Likely. Will you bend down and take a peek into the interior through the window? Likely.
Were you interested in stealing the car? No (well maybe a little )
So in Rockney's case there was no damage and no gained entry. The problem is drawing the line between curious for an illegal act and just plain old curiousness.
Prowling with a house or building involved is a bit easier to prove.

I've had several cops tell me personally that if I was to catch someone that maybe they should fall down a few flights of steps before I call the cops. Same thing was told to my dad a few years ago when he busted some punk walking up and down driveways looking for a car to steal(he lives in a pretty rural neighbourhood.)

I wouldn't really worry too much until they make a real attempt at breaking into your car. Only time will tell.

And since you missed it the first time pinhead; damage does not have to be done.
Proving that prowling was the intent is rather difficult to prove in some situations as stated.
Every situation is different even if the basic details are similar.
I'll end this with that statement. Feel free to argue away. I'm done with this.
